Expect AI Disclosure Rules to Become the Norm

The Newfoundland and Labrador government now requires vendors to disclose their use of AI. Expect this to become the norm.

The province introduced new requirements for vendors bidding on contracts after false citations thought to be AI-generated turned up in two reports submitted to the government. Now, vendors must disclose if and how they intend to use AI, and accept that their use of AI can be audited.

This is just one example. More public and private sector buyers of products and services will introduce similar requirements. The organizations best positioned to meet them have implemented structures and practices for using AI in a safe and trustworthy way.

The organizations who treat this shift as an opportunity rather than a burden will have a competitive advantage. Buyers increasingly want assurance that their partners use AI responsibly. The ability to demonstrate that will distinguish prepared organizations from those still figuring it out.
