Responsible AI Use: Where to Start
If your organization uses AI, it needs to be governed. How much attention and resources that requires will depend on considerations such as how your organization uses AI, what risks are involved, and the maturity of your existing governance system.
Usually, you do not need to create AI governance from scratch. You can build on the structures, policies, and processes that you already have and create what is needed to fill gaps.
A good starting point is a set of basic questions. Do you know what AI tools are in use across your organization? Do your existing policies cover AI use? Who is accountable when something goes wrong? These are practical questions that any organization can start asking today.
The answers will tell you where you stand and help you identify where to focus. That is enough to begin.
I developed a short guide that offers five questions organizations can use as a starting point for discussions about safe, responsible AI use. It is for organizations using AI that are just beginning to think about governance.
